Project Launch: ERA Chair – AI for Digital Humanities

As part of the new ERA Chair project Artificial Intelligence for Digital Humanities (AI4DH), a Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Digital Humanities will be established. The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Marko Robnik Šikonja from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana (UL FRI), while the ERA Chair holder is Prof. Dr. Antoine Doucet. Among the project team members is also Prof. Dr. Igor Vobič from the Centre for Social Communication Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana (UL FDV).

The Center of Excellence for AI in Digital Humanities will provide support to researchers in the humanities and social sciences in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analysis tools. It will offer state-of-the-art infrastructure for AI model development and expert assistance in creating new approaches tailored to disciplines such as linguistics, history, media studies, folklore studies, journalism, and philosophy.

By integrating AI technologies, researchers will be able to analyze much larger datasets and uncover connections between diverse sources, leading to new insights and a deeper understanding of culture, history, language, and other fields within the humanities.

The project is funded by the prestigious Horizon Europe, the EU’s key research and innovation program.
