Peter Sekloča holds a PhD in communication and a bachelor's degree in economics. He is a senior research associate at the Social Communication Research Centre, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana.
His research focuses on the political and economic challenges faced by news media in mitigating the risks of digitization, particularly addressing issues of their economic viability and the sustainability of their business models. He emphasizes the need for conceptualizing sustainable (public) media to promote open and egalitarian public communication in the networked public sphere. He has been a visiting researcher at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Maastricht University, where he studied the economic dimensions of media within digital capitalism.
His research has appeared in international journals such as Communications, tripleC, and Javnost – The Public. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Primorska, where he teaches courses: Political Economy of Communication, Public and Public Opinion, Contemporary Issues in Communication Science, and International Communication. He also served as Head of the Media Studies Department at the same institution from 2018 to 2021.
