Matej Kovačič works as a researcher at Jožef Stefan Institute and International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence. He is working on big data and AI research projects and well on cybersecurity research projects.
From 2018 till 2022 he was a Senior Lecturer of Information Security at the University of Nova Gorica. From 2014 till 2017 he was a member of research group of Institute for Criminology. From November 2010 till August 2014, he was a head of Analytics, Intelligence and Information Security department at Slovenian Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. From October 2000 till November 2010, he was a researcher and teaching assistant at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences. He has done several presentations on privacy, cryptography and information security (especially in the area of mobile communications) and has extensive knowledge on IT law related issues.
In 2018 he had organised several seminars/workshops about information security, known as Infosec seminar. He has experience in digital forensic analysis and is a member of expert's council of Institute for forensics of information technology. He is an author of four monographs and author or co-author of several other original scientific, professional and other articles and presentations. His last book, published in 2022 is titled "Crash course on cybersecurity: a manual for surviving in a networked world".
