Professor Igor Vobič, PhD.

Igor Vobič is Professor at the Chair of Journalism, Faculty for Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana and the Deputy Head of the Social Communication Research Center (CDK).
Igor Vobič, PhD (University of Ljubljana, 2012), is a Professor at the Chair of Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He conducts his research at the Social Communication Research Centre of the same institution, where he serves as Deputy Head. His research interests lie in exploring the material and discursive aspects of technological innovations in journalism, focusing on the evolving landscape of news production, the societal roles of journalism, and the shaping of journalistic identity and ideology. Currently, his research is centred on investigating the epistemic authority of journalism in response to the emergence of generative artificial intelligence in social communication.
Vobič's research findings have been published in esteemed international journals within the realms of communication, media, and journalism research, including Journalism, Journalism Studies, Journalism Practice, Digital Journalism, Convergence, Critical Sociology, and Javnost–The Public. Furthermore, he actively contributes as a member of the editorial boards for the international journals Digital Journalism and Medijska istraživanja/Media Research.
Presently, Vobič leads the research project titled "Media Landscape in Slovenia between Pluralisation and Homogenisation," supported by funding from the Slovenian Research Agency (ARIS) and the Ministry of Culture. He has previously undertaken visiting researcher positions at Lund University, Sweden, in 2009 and 2010, and the University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 2017. Additionally, from 2015 to 2018, he served as the Head of the Chair of Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. From 2015 to 2021, Vobič fulfilled the role of Secretary of the Slovenian Communication Association. In recognition of his teaching and research contributions, he was honoured with the Early-stage Career Teachers in Higher Education Award by the University of Ljubljana in 2016.
Since 2023, he has been a member of the Journalistic Court of Honour as a representative of the public. Prior to his employment at the University of Ljubljana, Vobič worked as a television journalist in the 24UR newsroom at Pop TV.
